Lingard reveals why West Ham loan so special and hints at future plans

Jesse Lingard has dropped a huge hint that he will not be staying at West Ham United despite a ‘brilliant’ experience of playing for the club.

The 28-year-old has been sensational for the Hammers since joining on loan from Manchester United in January. The talented forward has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 15 Premier League appearances. He has helped the East End outfit to sixth in the table and a likely spot in next season’s Europa League.

The Warrington-born star’s future has rarely been out of the headlines in recent weeks. Hammers chief David Moyes has made no secret of the fact he would like Lingard to remain at the London Stadium.

And the England international has revealed just why he has enjoyed his time in the capital so much.

“Everyone is all as one and together and I think the team spirit is amazing,” he told the club’s official website. “There is banter flying about week-in and week-out and day-in and day-out which is always good for team morale.

“When we’re training or on matchdays, we work and we’re always pushing towards the three points and everyone has the same ambition and goals.”

He is popular with his team-mates. Earlier his week fellow England midfielder Declan Rice urged him to stay as he has “changed the squad”.

But Moyes has already poured doubts on a permanent move due to the finances involved. It looks set to be a busy summer for his agent as other clubs might enter the picture.

Saints clash could be Lingard farewell

West Ham travel to St Mary’s to play Southampton in their season finale on Sunday. They will look to finish on a high and a draw will guarantee sixth spot in the standings.

But it remains open to question whether Lingard will be around to feature in Europe next term. He is clearly happy at the club but seemed to suggest that it will soon be coming to an end.

“I think just obviously playing week-in week-out, the lads have been brilliant, the staff have been brilliant and they’ve put confidence in me to play and do well,” he added.

“I was already ready to play from many months ago so to play the first game at Villa seems a lifetime ago now that we’re near the end of the season, but it’s been a brilliant experience and I’ll take away so many memories.”
