Liverpool enquiry puts €90m price tag on Euros star and ex Man Utd target

Federico Chiesa is reported to have had a €90m price tag placed on his head after Liverpool expressed an interest following his impressive Euro 2020 performances.

Chiesa has only started three of Italy’s six games at the tournament so far. However, he has played a crucial role in their progression to the final. He scored in extra-time of their round of 16 match against Austria after coming off the bench. This earned him a spot in the starting XI for the quarter-final against Belgium and the semi-final against Spain, in which he bagged the opener.

His eye-catching displays have been hard to ignore. In fact, the 23-year-old has drawn the attention of the six-time European Champions.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who report that the Reds have ‘requested information’ on the Juventus man in the last few days.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are seemingly in the market for attacking reinforcements. They are looking to back-up their established front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah.

Within the last week, reports have indicated they have been exploring a number of options. Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski is one such target they are said to have enquired about.

PSV Eindhoven’s Donyell Malen is supposed to be of interest too, as is Wolves’ Adama Traore. However, there is a significant discrepancy in how the two Premier League sides value the winger.

And now Chiesa is the latest attacker to be shown some attention by those in charge at Anfield. The report states he was on their radar whilst playing for Fiorentina, whom he joined Juve from in 2020.

Like Traore, though, it looks as if the transfer fee could end the talks before they have even started.

That’s because Juventus value him at around €90m. The Old Lady have already spent €10m on a two-year loan that began last season.

They then have an obligation to buy Chiesa next summer for €40m. With bonuses included, the total cost to the Italian side is set to be €60m.

Having made such a large investment on a player with bags of potential, it is understandable that he will be far from an easy purchase.

As such, it is likely Liverpool will continue to investigate alternative options in the coming weeks.

Chiesa turned down United last summer

Chiesa was at one time heavily pursued by rivals Manchester United. They also were aware of the winger prior to his move to Turin.

After struggling to secure the singing of Jadon Sancho last summer, reports suggested the Italian was an attractive cheaper alternative for the Red Devils.

Indeed, they were said to have submitted a bid of nearly £50m. Ultimately, Chiesa turned down the chance to move to the Premier League.

Of course, United now have their man in Sancho. And Juve are looking for a similar fee that transfer produced for their bright prospect.
