Liverpool have dream scenario for ‘extraordinary’ star as crunch talks with pair loom

Liverpool will begin contract extension talks with goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Fabinho this summer, a report claims.

Several players in Jurgen Klopp‘s squad stake a claim to be the manager’s best signing. However, Alisson and Fabinho have proved, alongside Mohamed Salah, to be two of the most consistent stars. In addition, Liverpool feel their absences arguably more than other players in the team.

The pair still have lengthy contracts to run; Alisson’s runs out in 2024 and Fabinho’s in 2023.

According to the Daily Mail, though, the pair have shot to the top of the priority list as Liverpool begin the process of tying their best players down to new deals.

The newspaper adds that the club will begin talks with the two players when they return for pre-season in July.

Indeed, Alisson and Fabinho will likely play in Brazil’s Copa America campaign before then.

However, getting Liverpool into the top four is the pair’s more pressing task before then and both have already played vital roles in the club’s mini-resurgence in recent months.

The Anfield club have suffered this season due to Fabinho moving to centre-back to cover for injuries. Since he moved back into midfield in March, though, Liverpool have only lost once.

Alisson, meanwhile, kept the club’s Champions League qualification hopes alive on Sunday by scoring a spectacular header in the final minute against West Brom.

The Daily Telegraph adds that Liverpool want to recognise the goalkeeper’s ‘extraordinary’ impact at the club by tying him down.

What’s more, they want the 28-year-old to spend the best years of his career at Anfield, with many of Europe’s other top stoppers starring long-term for one club.

David de Gea has spent almost 10 years at Manchester United, while Manuel Neuer is still at Bayern Munich.

Klopp heaps praise on Liverpool star

Meanwhile, Reds boss Klopp has heaped praise on Trent Alexander-Arnold, another player who starred in Sunday’s win over the Baggies.

The right-back delivered the corner from which Alisson headed in the winner, keeping his composure until the end.

In fact, it is the second such corner from which Liverpool have earned a crucial win in recent seasons, after Alexander-Arnold assisted Divock Origi in the Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona.
