Liverpool identify next Trent Alexander-Arnold after glowing reports from scouts

Liverpool are reportedly the latest club to be considering a summer move for highly-rated Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay.

The 18-year-old defender is said to have been identified as a potential understudy for first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold after excelling with the Pittodrie club in the Scottish Premiership.

Ramsay is under consideration as the Reds and Fulham look to agree on a fee for current Cottagers loanee Neco Williams.

The Wales international has been superb for a Fulham side on the brink of promotion. So much so that the London outfit are keen on completing a permanent move for the 21-year-old.

So far a figure of around £12million has been mooted. However, with Williams almost certain to move on, Liverpool will be in need of a back-up to England man Alexander-Arnold.

That is where Ramsay comes in, with the young defender already attracting interest from Italy this season.

Serie A side Bologna are reported to have failed with a £5million bid for the player, who also has Premier League admirers due to his attacking style.

Leeds, along with the Reds, have been monitoring Ramsay’s development in what has been a disappointing Aberdeen campaign.

Ramsay, who made his first-team debut in March 2021, has had to deal with transfer talk all season. However, he’s done his best to remain grounded.

He said: “It’s all been good because growing up it’s all you want to do — play first-team football, then hopefully get a big move one day in the future.

“It’s all about learning and you’ve got to keep calm. You can’t let it get to your head.

“If you do you can end up thinking you’re better than you are and not playing how you can.

Ramsay focused on Aberdeen

“At one stage it seemed like there was something on Twitter or in the papers almost every day.

“I tried not to get caught up in it because that’s the worst thing you can do.

“It’s good hearing all that stuff. But I’ve just got to produce on the pitch, then everything else will play itself out.”

Ramsay, who has also won three Scotland Under-21 caps, is back in action for the Dons on April 23 against Livingston.
