Liverpool profit on cards as Dyche puts Klopp man on four-man transfer list
Burnley have identified Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips as one of four options in the hunt to sign two new centre-backs, a report claims.
The centre-back enjoyed a fantastic season in which he went through a remarkable turnaround in fortunes. He featured on the club’s free-to-go last summer, but ended up making his Premier League debut in October. Since then, though, he has become a key figure for the Reds amid their injury crisis.
However, his future could be under threat amid the arrival of RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate.
The Frenchman has signed for £36million and will be competing with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for minutes.
Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group owners could be fond of the idea of making a solid profit on a player who they signed from Bolton for free in 2016.
Indeed, The Sun on Sunday has claimed that Burnley have enquired about the 24-year-old’s availability.
The Clarets want two new centre-backs this summer to bolster their ranks. As well as Phillips, Burnley plan to launch a £10million bid for Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall.
Stoke’s Nathan Collins is also on their radar. However, the Potters believe that they can generate interest in the 20-year-old from Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
As such, Burnley could turn to Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry as an option.
As for Phillips, the Englishman has insisted that he wants to fight for his place at Liverpool next season.
Phillips wants Liverpool role
He said recently: “Don’t get me wrong, even though I feel like this season’s been successful for me, I know that I’ve got plenty to work on and plenty to improve on.
“That’s what I’ll be doing in the off-season, I’ll have a little break and then get back to training on my own and work on things maybe you don’t get the opportunity to during the season, because it’s so intense.

“So I’ll be doing that and hopefully have a strong pre-season, just continue to develop and build on what I’ve done so far this year.”
