Liverpool steadfast after being offered old boy again for amazing knockdown price

Liverpool have been offered the opportunity to sign loanee Ozan Kabak once more at a knockdown price, claims a report.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opted against making Kabak’s loan spell a permanent one at the end of the season.

The Reds had paid an initial loan fee of £1m plus a bonus of £500,000 for the centre-back in January. Michael Edwards also negotiated a fee of around £18m to make the move permanent in the summer.

Kabak, who was solid enough, was keen to stay, Klopp though was not so keen.

Kabak told The Times (via Liverpool Echo): “It’s Liverpool. Of course I want to stay.

“These five months have been very valuable for my career, my personality. I have met with very good people, very good footballers.

“I have worked with a manager like Jurgen. Now I have a lot of experience with these stars. I would say they are stars. There are a lot of stars on our team. Even to train with them makes you better.”

Instead Klopp went out and spent £36m on RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate. And that was the end of Kabak’s chances of returning to Anfield.

However, according to Goal, the 21-year-old has been offered again to the Merseysiders.

Kabak price tag £8.5m

This time though, with Schalke desperate to cut their wage bill following their relegation from the Bundesliga, the price tag is just £8.5m.

Liverpool “have turned down” the opportunity. And per the report, “Liverpool’s stance, for now at least, has not changed”.

Leicester were thought to be favourites to get a deal done for Kabak. However, Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schroder has made it clear there are no concrete offers for the defender.

He said: “There are enquiries for Ozan but no official bids yet.”

Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger has revealed Kabak has been given an extra week off by Schalke to consider his future. The former Bundesliga side are desperate to get rid of the Turkey international.

Leicester were named in connection with a move for the player last month. They weren’t the only Prem side linked.

Newcastle were said to have been offered the chance to sign Kabak. But they look unlikely to make a move. Furthermore, Crystal Palace were said to have joined the race in recent weeks.

None, it seems have made an offer for the player, prompting Schalke to return cap in hand back to Liverpool.
