Low key start for Aston Villa after Premier League fixtures announced

A low key start awaits for Aston Villa after the Premier League fixture day announcement landed them with an away trip to Watford on August 14.

Dean Smith’s men will follow that up with a home clash with Newcastle on August 21 before another home date with new-boys Brentford on August 28.

Things hot up in September with away trip to Chelsea (Sept 11) and Man Utd (Sept 25). Sandwiched between those games is a home ckash with Everton.

Boxing Day sees Villa at home to Chelsea, while they travel to Leeds on December 28. They then face Brentford away on New Year’s day before the FA Cup comes into focus.

Then on January 15 they host Man Utd at Villa Park.

Villa face West Midlands rivals Wolves at home on October 16 and make the short trip to Molineux on May 2.

The season will finish on May 22 with an away trip to the champions Man City.

Rooney would love to coach Grealish

Meanwhile, former England international Wayne Rooney says that he would love to coach Jack Grealish.

The Three Lions kicked off their Euro 2020 tournament with a 1-0 win over Croatia, with Grealish on the bench.

Gareth Southgate opted for the flair of Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling instead.

England face Scotland up next with Villa captain Grealish hoping to get a taste of the action.

Speaking to The Times, ex-England star Rooney picked Grealish out as one of his most admired stars.

The now-Derby boss said: “Jack Grealish is the closest thing I’ve seen to Gazza [Paul Gascoine] on a football pitch.

“He has a lot to do to reach Gazza’s levels but his style of play, the way he takes the ball and runs with it in a way that is so awkward to play against, his sheer confidence on the field – it all reminds me of the legend I watched at Everton, and then trained with when I joined their first-team squad.

“For England, I think Harry Kane is the most important player but Grealish is the one who is going to light up the tournament. He has to play.”
