Luis Suarez makes Liverpool transfer admission; sends Gerrard message

Luis Suarez has virtually ruled out a return to English football after admitting it he would find it “strange” to play for any other side in the Premier League other than Liverpool.

The Uruguay striker spent a successful three-and-a-half years at Anfield before moving to Barcelona in 2014. He is now playing his trade under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid and claimed LaLiga title success this past season – something he was very pleased to remind old club Barca of.

Recent rumours have touted Suarez with a shock return to Merseyside. However, it appears that the 34-year-old is more than happy to stay in Madrid.

The 34-year-old bagged 82 goals for the Reds, but his exit did not go down well with the Anfield faithful.

But despite his controversial exit, Suarez admitted that he could not return to England and play for any other club.

Speaking to World Soccer Magazine, he said: “Playing for any team other than Liverpool in England would be hard.

“I had, and hope I still do have, such a good relationship with Liverpool fans that it would be strange for me to play for somebody else.

“It would have been special to win the league with Liverpool. But I am glad that their wait is now over.

“They look like a team that will compete for many seasons to come even if this one has not been the best for them. They are back where they belong.”

No Suarez escape clause

Despite some reports suggesting that Suarez has an escape clause at Atletico, the forward insists that is not the case.

He added: “At the moment I am enjoying my time here. I enjoy it here; we are settled in Spain – there is no need to think about me leaving.

“When I think how well I have settled in at Atletico and the faith the coach has shown in me, it was easily the right decision for me.”

Suarez also had a message for his former Reds team-mate Steven Gerrard, after talk of an unlikely switch to Rangers.

He said: “I think Stevie is doing just fine without me!

“I am pleased but not at all surprised to see him win the league with Rangers.

“Winning is what he does and at some point in the future I am sure he will be at Liverpool again.”
