Major Solskjaer gripe with Man Utd star sees transfer for England Euro 2020 man begin

Manchester United have rekindled interest in Atletico Madrid and England full-back Kieran Trippier, according to a report.

The Red Devils are facing a crucial summer transfer window after their latest season’s efforts. Despite losing in the Europa League final, club chiefs feel that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made enough progress to warrant a new contract. Indeed, the Norwegian also guided the club to a second-placed Premier League finish.

As a result, football director John Murtough has supposedly laid plans to make one ‘mega-signing’.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is reportedly that man, but progress on that transfer has halted.

As such, Solskjaer is looking at other areas of the squad and has identified right-back as a concern.

The Manchester Evening News claims that Solskjaer feels ‘unsatisfied’ with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s attacking contributions.

The 23-year-old revealed in January that he is taking advice from Bruno Fernandes on how to improve his output. However, he has reportedly not done enough to convince Solskjaer.

Indeed, the manager wants to provide competition, referencing Luke Shaw’s resurgence at left-back since bringing in Alex Telles.

United made initial forays into a deal for Trippier in January, but backed out over his off-field ban.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils have now revived that interest and are ‘considering a formal bid’.

Trippier would love Man Utd move

The newspaper report claims that Trippier would ‘relish’ the prospect of playing for United.

Born in Bury, the England international grew up in a United-supporting family.

His original contract at Atletico ran until the summer of 2022, but he added a further year to those terms last month.

Despite that, the Manchester Evening News claims that Trippier has ‘made arrangements’ to forge a ‘permanent’ return to England.

Trippier made 28 La Liga appearances in Atletico’s La Liga-winning campaign, assisting six goals.

The 30-year-old was one of four right-backs to earn a place in Gareth Southgte’s Euro 2020 squad.
