Man Utd centre-back target claims ‘nice things will come’ amid talk of done deal
Manchester United target Pau Torres insists that he is “totally calm” regarding his potential move to Old Trafford this summer, but admits that “nice things will come”.
The Red Devils are looking to sign Torres or experienced Real Madrid star Raphael Varane after the conclusion of Euro 2020. Indeed, the former has so far played every minute of the tournament for Spain, with United monitoring his performances.
Reports on Monday claimed that United had made progress over a deal for the 24-year-old. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to land a centre-back before striking deals for Jadon Sancho and Kieran Trippier.
Torres excelled as Villarreal beat United to lift the Europa League trophy after an epic penalty shootout.
And speaking about a potential exit from his boyhood club, Torres told Goal: “I have a contract at Villarreal, I just won the first title for the club, we have qualified for the Champions League and it is something that excites me a lot.
“Now I’m focused on the Euros, then the Super Cup and nice things will come. So I’m totally calm.
“I live in my home town, very quiet, doing beautiful things and fighting for great things with my hometown team.
“I’m totally calm, right now I am only focused on the European Championship, on Wednesday [when Spain face Slovakia].”
Torres’ inclusion as a regular starter for his country was deemed controversial by some after Luis Enrique omitted legendary defender Sergio Ramos from his Euro 2020 squad.

The Villarreal star has partnered Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte at the heart of Spain’s defence. And the centre-back admits he has spoken to Ramos about the decision.
He added: “Sergio has spent a lot of the season injured, unfortunately. I was the first one who wanted to see him here because I appreciate him a lot.
“We are the ones who are here, we are the ones who have to take this forward,” he said following two disappointing draws with Sweden and Poland.
“I’ve got on well with Sergio from the first day I came to the national team. For me he has always been a benchmark and now that he has to decide where his future is. I wish him the best and that the decision he makes is the best for him and for his family.”
Ramos is also a rumoured United centre-back target, like Varane, although a move to Sevilla looks the best bet for the Real legend.
