Man Utd handed big incentive to finally get Real Madrid deal done

Manchester United’s hopes of getting their hands on an experienced partner for Harry Maguire next season have been given a lift.

Real Madrid are reported to have reduced their asking price for France centre-back Raphael Varane. Los Blancos want a quick resolution to the saga with Varane, who is so far, refusing to sign an extension in the Spanish capital.

Only one year remains on Varane’s contract at Madrid, who find themselves in a precarious situation. They also look likely to lose Sergio Ramos as a free agent and do not want a similar scenario with Varane.

According to Marca, Madrid have offered Varane fresh terms but he is yet to respond. It looks as though the 28-year-old is looking elsewhere and United are among the suitors for his signature.

Now Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim Real want Varane’s future resolving quickly. They have already signed David Alaba, but will need another defensive signing, if as expected Ramos and Varane depart.

Recent reports have claimed Real had put a £60m (€70m) price tag on Varane, but with the clock ticking that has been lowered.

Now Real are prepared to let him go for £42.9m (€50m), according to the source.

That will be welcome news at Old Trafford because the Red Devils are long-term admirers of the former Lens academy product.

Varane’s focus on France

Despite reports that Varane would be open to a Premier League move, the player has this week shifted focus away from his future.

Varane has joined up with France ahead of Euro 2020 and a move is unlikely to go through while the tournament is on.

“This is not the time to talk about my future,” Varane said while with the France setup (as quoted by Manchester Evening News).

“I am focused on the selection, on this Euro. It is normal and logical to ask the question and for my part it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines.

“We are all human beings. We can think about it. As for my personal case, I am focused on the objectives that we have in the France team. It is not a subject that I will discuss every day in my room at Clairefontaine.

“I am focused on my goal, and now is not the time to discuss it. If I have to talk about it, it will be directly with the people concerned.”
