Man Utd learn new lowly fee for ideal Bruno Fernandes midfield foil

Reported Manchester United interest in Uruguayan midfielder Mauro Arambarri could be about to increase amid claims Getafe could allow him to leave for a reduced fee this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is making some ambitious plans to strengthen his squad this summer. And while he has sidestepped questions about Harry Kane, he did admit he wants to spend some money on some new signings. “I can’t say we’re not signing a striker, of course not, because we’re building. We’re working towards a better squad. Hopefully we’ll end up with a stronger squad when we start next season. We want to be more consistent to challenge the ones in front of us.”

As well as a new striker, United also have a centre-half and a new left-back in their sights. To that end, Wednesday’s Paper Talk claimed Bruno Fernandes had endorsed the signing of a talented £50m-rated star.

However, strengthening their midfield is also under consideration for United this summer. Indeed, they are reportedly in the market for an upgrade to Fred and Nemanja Matic, neither of whom have found much consistency.

West Ham’s Declan Rice is one such player they admire. However, his £80m asking price is likely to frighten United off. Furthermore, a report last week raised a major concern United had over the player.

Instead, it was reported last week that United were considering a surprise approach for Getafe midfielder Arambarri.

According to Traspasos the Old Trafford club have identified Arambarri as an ideal target.

The 25-year-old plays a key role at Getafe and has racked up 141 appearances since signing in 2018. Indeed, he has played all but three La Liga games this season.

Overall, he has only missed 11 league games at the Spanish club, proving a consistent figure in their plans.

He has a €30m (£26m) exit clause in his contract and at 25, was seen as a good age.

However, the Daily Express claims Getafe are actually willing to consider bids of just €18m (£15.5m) for the Uruguayan.

Furthermore, the player shares the same agent in Jonathan Barnett as Luke Shaw, Daniel James and Dean Henderson. That might yet help United in their negotiations.

Solskjaer keen to strengthen

It’s not the first time Solskjaer has spoken of his desire to strengthen his United options this summer.

After United’s loss to Leicester last week confirmed City as Premier League champions, he stressed the need to bolster his squad in order to close the gap.

“If you want to take up the challenge with them [Manchester City] we need to strengthen our squad,” the Norwegian said.

“Congratulations to them. They have had a fantastic season. I am very pleased with my boys that have made it to the last 10 days [of the season] with a Manchester City side ahead of us that are lauded as the best in Europe.”
