Man Utd, Liverpool chances rated as Dortmund drop Jadon Sancho asking price even further
Borussia Dortmund’s reduced asking price for Jadon Sancho is even lower than first believed, according to a report – but a Premier League move is still in doubt.
Sancho was the focus of intense interest from Manchester United last summer, but Dortmund stood firm. They set a €120m (£108m) asking price and stuck to it. United tested their resolve with lower bids but the German club were not interested in negotiating.
This season has been a bit more challenging for Sancho. He has only scored six goals in the Bundesliga, compared to 17 last term. All his goals this season have come since the turn of the year, so he has been getting back into his stride.
But amid his slight downturn in form, coupled with the lasting effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dortmund have become aware that they may no longer be able to command the same fee.
They have had an agreement in place with Sancho that would allow him to leave this summer, as long as certain conditions are met. According to Goal, one of those is that they receive £78m as a transfer fee.
That would be a £30m reduction on his value last summer, and also even lower than the figure that was suggested recently. Just earlier this week, ESPN claimed he would cost £87m.
But it seems Dortmund have softened their stance even further, which should come as a boost for several Premier League clubs.
However, Goal indicate that many of Sancho’s suitors have cooled their interest. For example, Man Utd are still reluctant to finance a big-money move.
Liverpool would also have financial concerns about the deal, while Chelsea would prefer to spend a similar sum on a centre-forward.
The one club who could easily afford Sancho is his old team Manchester City. However, after letting him go for £8m in four years ago, they are unlikely to return for him.
Hence, Sancho’s future is still all to play for. He wants to avoid a saga like last summer’s, but it may be out of his hands.
In fact, even though Dortmund have dramatically lowered their demands for him, he could end up staying put. But a number of clubs will still be monitoring the situation.
Sancho suggested as part of Man Utd plan
While Man Utd may still be weighing up the pros and cons of bidding again for Sancho, one pundit has advised them to include him on their shopping list.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes a centre-back, striker and winger could be the club’s biggest priorities.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane is one player whose uncertain future will dominate the transfer window. Agbonlahor wants United to go for both him and Sancho, as well as a new defender.

Asked about Kane, the pundit told talkSPORT: “I think he’s worth more [than £90m].
“I think with what he can bring to that Manchester United team, you’re not going to get Harry Kane for £90m from [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy.
“It’s going to be over £100m, £110m. Just because of how good a player he is. He’s a natural finisher at the peak of his career. I just can’t see it happening for £90m.
“I think he could win everything [at United]. Manchester United probably need another right winger, a striker and a centre-half.
“If they could get Harry Kane, maybe Sancho and a world-class centre-half, there is no reason why they can’t win the Premier League, win the Champions League.”
