Manchester United are reported to have circulated the name of Alex Telles to some of Europe’s leading clubs after deciding they are willing to cash in on the Brazilian full-back.
The Red Devils have won through to the Europa League final and will battle Villarreal in Gdansk on Wednesday. Victory will deliver the first piece of silverware of Solskjaer’s Old Trafford reign. However, United want to challenge Manchester City for title glory and go deep into the Champions League.
As such, plans are starting to take shape for the summer transfer window and new additions. Top of Solskjaer’s agenda is a right-winger and a central defender. United could also be in the market for a new big-name centre forward, amid claims they have offered Harry Kane a huge package.
Jadon Sancho continues to be mentioned as a right-wing target after it was reported United had been cleared to sign him.
United will likely having a sizeable transfer warchest at their disposal this summer. However, a number of unwanted fringe stars could be moved on in order to further boost their coffers.
To that end, Portuguese newspaper Record claims summer 2020 signing Telles has been told he can leave.
Telles was signed in a €15m (£13.6m) deal to provide cover and competition for Luke Shaw at left-back. However, his arrival has induced new levels to Shaw’s game, meaning Telles could be sacrificed.
The Brazilian has made 20 starts, but has not been a regular. Indeed, Record states United are willing to sell but there is a condition to that – they want to make a profit on the 28-year-old.
They state United will only consider ‘good offers’ for the player, with his asking price likely to start at €20m. Indeed, it’s thought United believe they could achieve €25m for the player, given he’s contracted for three more years. That would represent a decent £8m profit on their initial investment.
Telles staying professional
While all the signs point towards an exit, Telles remains focused on the job in hand for United – Wednesday’s Europa League final.
He is likely to take his place on the substitutes bench for the match, with Shaw a likely starter.
And the player admitted recently that both players have pushed each other on to new heights.
“Since I’ve arrived here, I’ve worked as hard as I can,” Telles said recently. “I’ve done everything I can to show that I deserve to be here. I think I’ve done that.
“At the same time, I’m really happy for Luke Shaw, who has made great progress and has been playing really well. He trains really well and he’s done excellently in the matches as well.
“When you’ve got a situation like that, then the team can only benefit from it. It’s Man United that wins from that [situation].”
