Man Utd speed up Pogba plan as crunch talks commence ahead of schedule

Talks have now begun between Manchester United and the representatives of Paul Pogba over extending his contract, reports claim.

Pogba is about to enter the final year of his contract, putting United in a risky position. His controversial agent Mino Raiola has fuelled the fire of rumours that he could be sold. But Pogba has responded well on the pitch, proving his quality. Hence, United will be trying to keep him.

Wednesday’s papers claimed that United were fearful that Pogba was delaying talks so other clubs could come in for him. Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid were all mentioned as potential suitors.

The reports suggested that contract talks would have to wait until after Pogba’s involvement with France at Euro 2020. But now, just one day later, it seems things are accelerating.

According to Sky Sports News, United have now begun talks with Pogba’s entourage over a possible new deal.

After one of his best seasons in the red shirt, United know how beneficial it would be to keep Pogba. Therefore, they will try to convince him to put pen to paper.

He originally signed a five-year contract when returning from Juventus in 2016, in what was then a world-record transfer. United proceeded to trigger a 12-month extension to that deal, but now time is running out.

Hence, they will seemingly be in contact with his representatives while he focuses on his international duties with France.

He helped his country to win the World Cup in 2018 and will be hoping to follow that up with more major tournament success. However those attempts go, the focus will soon shift back to his club future.

United will hope to convince Pogba they can be more competitive next season after a promising but off-the-pace second-place finish in the 2020-21 Premier League.

Sancho still on radar

Key to their hopes of a better season will be strengthening their squad, with Jadon Sancho remaining their top target.

Sky back up earlier reports that United have made their first bid for the Borussia Dortmund and England talent.

The new bid fell short of Dortmund’s demands but United are expected to respond quickly. According to Sky, things are progressing and all parties are optimistic.

Dortmund have dropped their price tag for Sancho compared to last summer, but United still haven’t met it.

They have almost agreed personal terms with the winger, though, so once they overcome the hurdle of club negotiations, they should be optimistic.
