Man Utd star brushes off ‘joke’ over whether he answers crucial Solskjaer question

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has reiterated that he wants to play for Lazio again after his Serie A loan spell last season.

The 25-year-old enjoyed his time in the Italian top flight, making 33 appearances in all competitions. While he struggled to break into the starting lineup, he chipped in with one goal and four assists. The midfielder moved there in October, despite playing a key United role in the 2019/20 campaign; Donny van de Beek’s arrival limited his chances.

But after returning to Old Trafford, the focus has now turned to where his next step will take him.

Van de Beek has yet to make his mark at Man Utd, meaning Pereira would likely remain below the Dutchman in the pecking order.

In any case, Pereira has long said that he wants to stay in Rome.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, the midfielder opened up on his potential next steps and joked about whether he fits into Solskjaer’s plans.

He said: “Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga? They are super leagues. The English one is very physical, and as you can see, I don’t have the ideal physique!

“Joking aside, I loved playing in England; Spanish football is more my style of play.

“Future? I would like to stay and play for Lazio again, but this depends on the discussion with United and what they will want to do with me.

“I have a contract with the club; it’s like a second home for me. I have been there since I was 16; I always talk to the people who work for the club.”

Pereira transfer hangs in balance

The latest reports claim that Lazio will not activate their purchase option in Pereira’s loan deal from United.

However, the club still want the midfielder at the club and so will formulate a different plan to sign him permanently.

That could involve a change of manager, with Maurizio Sarri set to replace Inter-bound Simone Inzaghi in the dugout.
