Man Utd star readies action plan after watching Solskjaer grant colleague’s exit

Axel Tuanzebe will ask Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about following Brandon Williams out on loan, a report claims.

Both defenders remain on the fringes of Solskjaer’s team and have subsequently struggled for action. Centre-back Tuanzebe made 19 outings last season, while left-back Williams weighed in with 14. In fact, the latter also played five Under-23 matches amid Alex Telles’ presence behind Luke Shaw.

Telles’ arrival from Porto in October meant Williams sought a loan spell away from the club.

However, the Manchester Evening News reports United denied him a move in January due to Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s exit to Bayer Leverkusen and Ethan Laird’s loan departure to MK Dons.

Nevertheless, the newspaper adds that Williams will get his chance in this summer’s transfer window.

The 20-year-old Englishman reportedly has interest from the Premier League and Championship. It is unclear whether the duo remain keen, but Newcastle and Southampton enquired last January.

Both clubs agreed successful loan deals last season, with Joe Willock impressing at Newcastle and Liverpool’s Takumi Minamino moving to the south coast.

In a separate report, ESPN claims that Tuanzebe will now ask Solskjaer if he can also leave this summer.

Like Williams, he has struggled for game time. He remains behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly – who recently signed a new deal – in the pecking order.

There is also talk that the Red Devils are looking to partner captain Maguire with a top new centre-back signing.

Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane looks a top target, while ESPN adds that Villarreal’s Pau Torres – among others – is also on their radar.

Tuanzebe reportedly plans to speak to Solskjaer when the squad not taking part in Euro 2020 or Copa America return for pre-season.

Man Utd should target centre-back

According to ex-United coach Nicky Butt, Solskjaer should work to bring in a top new centre-back.

Maguire and Lindelof remain the manager’s preferred partnership, with Bailly unable to prove his fitness.

Speaking about France international Varane, Butt noted that he is better than Lindelof in his assessment of the World Cup winner.
