Man Utd to pocket eye-catching fee if Tottenham or Arsenal sign Zaha

Manchester United are set to pocket a tidy sum if Crystal Palace finally decide to cash-in on Wilfried Zaha this summer.

The Ivory Coast winger played for the Red Devils’ books between 2013 and 2015 but spent the majority of his time at Old Trafford out on loan and only managed two appearances for the senior side. The 28-year-old has since emerged as of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton have all been linked with summer swoops for the forward, who scored 11 goals in 30 games last season.

Zaha moved to Manchester in a £10million switch from Palace back in 2013. However, he was sold back to the Eagles for a bargain £6m just two years later.

Despite his failure at Old Trafford, United still saw enough to convince Palace of a 25% sell-on clause.

The report in the Daily Star claims that the Selhurst Park outfit tried to get that clause waived as part of Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move in 2019, but the Red Devils stood firm.

And with Zaha potentially moving for a fee of around £40m, United could pocket as much as £10m. Ironically that is the price they originally paid for him.

The departure of Roy Hodgson at the end of the season could play a major part in Zaha’s future. The pair were said to have a strong relationship. Indeed, the former England boss twice convinced the winger to stay at Selhurst Park.

But with Hodgson now gone, Palace are expecting to field numerous enquiries for their star man.

United increasingly confident of Sancho deal

Meanwhile, Manchester United are locked in talks with Borussia Dortmund over the future of Jadon Sancho and reports claim their optimism is growing.

Sancho was United’s top target last summer, but they failed to meet Dortmund’s asking price. The winger has never faded off their radar, though, and now could be the time to make their move again. Dortmund’s demands have dropped, although they still want any deal to be done on their terms.

Hence, United will still have to convince them in negotiations, but those talks are ongoing.

According to Sky Sports News and The Athletic, there is increasing confidence from United’s part that they can sign Sancho.

Sky claim all parties are “cautiously optimistic” of completing a deal for the 21-year-old. Personal terms will not be a problem, leaving it between the clubs to find a compromise.

The report suggests the key area to determine from the talks is how much United will pay, and how they will pay it. Dortmund’s asking price is not revealed, but they will only sell if it is met by a certain date.

Last summer, they set United a deadline of before their pre-season training camp began to meet their demands for Sancho. The Red Devils ultimately failed to reach those requirements.

The Athletic warn that the two clubs once again are “apart” on Sancho’s valuation and Dortmund’s demands may not be as low as first thought. However, they too claim that there are greater “expectations” of an agreement being found.

United reportedly want to spend around £80m on Sancho, which still falls around £20m below what Dortmund want. But there is a better chance of a compromise this summer than there was last year.

The Premier League side could make up the remaining amount by including add-ons, for example.
