Manchester United looking to offload Louis van Gaal signing with rivals ‘interested’

Manchester United are trying to offload Anthony Martial after finally securing the transfer of Jadon Sancho, claims a report.

Martial’s Old Trafford days look numbered after United spent £72m on the arrival of England winger Sancho.

The former Monaco man has struggled to get game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was last season hampered by a ruptured knee ligament.

The 25-year-old attacker is still recovering from the problem he picked up on international duty at the end of March.

The Daily Star now claims United are looking to move Martial in a bid to recoup some of the money they have shelled out.

United are still hoping to wrap up a £40m deal for Raphael Varane and Martial is seen as a player they can claw back some cash on.

The attacker is under contract until 2024, with the club also holding a 12-month extension.

The report claims Tottenham “are interested” in the player that United paid an initial £36m for. That deal though, with add-ons, could hit £58m and now United are ready to offload the 25-year-old.

Daniel Levy though is not keen on matching Martial’s £250,000 a week salary. United are said to want around £50m for the left-sided attacker, but it’s said to be his personal terms which could hinder his exit.

As per the report, Levy “is not interested in making Martial one of the top earners in N17”.

West Ham, Everton and Aston Villa are all looking to add some quality to their forward lines, but Martial’s personal terms may well prove prohibitive.

Solskjaer hint

Martial has scored 78 goals in 258 appearances for United with 50 assists, but his time looks to be up. Not that Solskjaer would publicly admit that though.

Solskjaer hinted to Sky Sports after United’s friendly defeat to QPR, that Martial is in his plans.

“It shows the fans that we mean business,” said Solskjaer (via the Manchester Evening News) when asked about Sancho’s signing.

“We hope that we’ve got one of the best forwards in England for the next 10, 12 years.

“We’ve got Marcus – 23, we’ve got Mason who is a young lad. So we have got an English core there and then we’ve got the added experience with Edinson, Anthony, Bruno, Jesse is coming back.

“So I think the forward line is looking really good.”
