Mbappe bombshell set to spark trio into furious summer scramble
Liverpool and Manchester City have been given hope after reports that Kylian Mbappe is stalling over signing a new deal at Paris Saint-Germain.
The 22-year-old is one of the hottest properties in European football. PSG are rumoured to have paid €145m plus €35m in add-ons for his services back in 2017. But it is likely that any interested party would have to go beyond those figures to snare him from Paris.
The World Cup winner will enter the final year of his Parc des Princes deal next season. And the Ligue 1 giants know they must act to ensure he does not leave for nothing in 2022.
Neymar recently extended his stay with the club, with the Brazil superstar penning terms until 2025. But despite PSG making his extension a priority, Mbappe is unwilling to rush into a decision on his future, according to Telefoot.
He is said to be considering his options after Mauricio Pochettino’s side crashed out of the Champions League to Manchester City. And the capital outfit are also in line to miss out on the French top-flight title for the first time in three years.
There are not too many clubs who could afford the Parisian. Liverpool, City and Real Madrid are those who are thought to hold an interest.
Pochettino will not want to lose a man who has scored 76 goals from 78 appearances and 106 in all competitions. But reports suggest he has plans should the talented youngster force his way out.
Salah a possible Mbappe replacement
The Argentinian tactician is a known admirer of Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah. Despite the Reds’ poor season by their recent high standards, the Egypt international has still bagged 20 league goals.
And he has 29 in all competitions, with Chelsea said to be pondering whether to try and take him back to Stamford Bridge.
There could be a deal to be done with PSG and Liverpool involving the two players concerned but negotiations would surely be protracted.
Real’s interest could also throw a spanner in the works. The lure of the Bernabeu and playing under France legend Zinedine Zidane might be tempting for the prolific forward.
Les Rouge et Bleu cannot afford to let things drag and they will want his future sorted before next season. It looks set to be an interesting summer, with many big-name players possibly on the move.
Jurgen Klopp might be at a disadvantage as regards Mbappe if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League.
