Midfield starlet told to reject Man City in favour of Leicester move

Young Belgian midfielder Charles De Ketelaere has been told to reject Manchester City to join a club of Leicester City’s size.

De Ketelaere is already an important part of Club Brugge’s first team, despite being just 20 years old. He featured 32 times in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League last season, registering three goals and four assists.

His performances have earned him a call-up to the national team, whom he has represented on one occasion.

Manchester City are rumoured to be monitoring his progress ahead of a potential move. They will have the chance to see his talent firsthand when Brugge welcome Pep Guardiola’s men to the Jan Breydel stadium in the Champions League on October 19.

De Ketelaere is an attacking midfielder who can also play as a second striker or on the left flank. He is widely tipped to reach the top in one of Europe’s major five leagues.

However, former Belgium international Marc Degryse thinks he needs to be clever with his next destination.

Degryse said (via Sport Witness): “Manchester City still seems a bit too high for me. But maybe first an intermediate step, to a club that has ambition.

“Like Leicester City, for example. If you can continue to grow there, then the sky is the limit.”

Man City already have a host of talented players in De Ketelaere’s position. Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva have all played starring roles under Guardiola in recent years.

Jack Grealish also has the ability to play centrally, although his favourite position is on the left wing.

In contrast, De Ketelaere could be a great signing for Leicester to become an understudy to James Maddison. His composure on the ball and exceptional movement off it mean he could adapt well to life in England.

Guardiola praises Leipzig after Man City win

Guardiola has called Jesse Marsch’s RB Leipzig side ‘fantastic’ after they played out a thrilling Champions League game.

City took the three points in Group A with a 6-3 victory at the Etihad. In a post-match interview, Guardiola said: “Leipzig never give up. They have a special way to attack. They play all or nothing.

“You never have the feeling it’s over. We scored a few minutes after they scored [a few times] and it helped us a lot.

“They have a young team, so aggressive, so strong. A fantastic team. Leipzig give a good message to football.”
