Moyes hits dead end as Leeds rejection leaves West Ham striker quest unresolved

West Ham will need to focus their efforts elsewhere after it emerged that Leeds United have no intention of selling star man Raphinha this month.

The Hammers’ search for a new forward has seemingly been going on for ever. While Raphinha is not a striker, David Moyes appeared keen after the Brazilian impressed in three clashes with his side this term. The Scot feels he could dovetail with the likes of Michail Antonio in attack.

And the East End outfit were prepared to make him their record signing, according to reports. Liverpool have also been linked with the former Rennes star. And it is easy to see why.

The Brazil international has scored 14 goals and registered 11 assists from 51 appearances in all competitions for the Whites. He is a player to get fans out of their seats and Marcelo Bielsa does not want to lose him.

Leeds have opened talks over a new deal for the flying winger, in an attempt to fight off the Reds approach. But the London Stadium club have now entered the picture and are said to be readying a late bid.

However, The Guardian are adamant that Leeds will reject any overtures from the capital outfit.

West Ham could test the Elland Road club’s resolve with an improved offer on deadline day. But even that tactic is likely to be met with a negative response.

West Ham ‘in talks’ for teenage sensation

Moyes seems to have cash burning a hole in his pocket at present. The former Everton chief is desperate to bolster his attacking ranks but is struggling to bring anyone to the club.

Reims Hugo Ekitike is one star that has been on the radar. The 19-year-old, who has been likened to Kylian Mbappe, has scored eight goals from 11 starts and 18 top-flight appearances this term.

Unsurprisingly, the likes of Newcastle, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Tottenham and Leicester City have been linked.

Reims seemed in danger of pricing him out of the market. But Sky Sports, via West Ham Zone, are reporting that the Hammers have opened dialogue with Les rouges et blancs.

The report claims they will demand ‘in excess of €30m (£25m)’ for the starlet. The Hammers lodged a €25m bid on Wednesday, according to a report.

But they are now thought to be in talks after upping their bid. It has been a frustrating window for the capital outfit but might end on a positive note.
