Murtough moves swiftly on from Sancho, eyeing star Man Utd transfer to fix Bellingham regret

Manchester United are weighing up a transfer for Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga after moving closer to a deal for Jadon Sancho, claims a report.

United football director John Murtough has moved to within touching distance of a deal for winger Sancho. The Red Devils failed with a move for the England international last summer, but look to have succeeded this time round. Specifically, the drop in Sancho’s fee from £108million has changed the landscape considerably.

However, this summer’s window will prove pivotal if United are to get silverware over the line.

As such, the Mail on Sunday reports that transfer chiefs have identified Camavinga as another star target.

United have had transfer links with the 18-year-old before, but their pursuit could soon become more serious.

As it stands, though, United’s interest in the Frenchman remains in its infancy.

Camavinga has already enjoyed significant success, despite his young age. Indeed, he made his Rennes debut at the age of 16 and has made become a regular France Under-21 international.

He has also made an outing for the senior team, when he joined the squad last September and October.

The Mail on Sunday adds that United have made a midfield addition a priority after missing out on Jude Bellingham.

The 17-year-old chose Borussia Dortmund as his next destination last summer after interest mounted in the ex-Birmingham City starlet.

Old Trafford chiefs see Camavinga as a ‘more than able’ alternative to the now-England international.

Club chiefs’ interest in Camavinga also comes from his availability to leave Rennes this summer.

The Ligue 1 side are willing to cash in now instead of losing their star man as a free agent next summer when his contract expires.

Arsenal have also had transfer interest in the midfielder, reports have claimed.

Camavinga agent confirms transfer approaches

Speaking earlier this year, Camavinga’s agent confirmed that he has received plenty of interest in his client.

Jonathan Barnett said: “Believe me we have a lot of offers for this year, a lot of offers, and good ones.

“I mean top, top clubs. We don’t want to rush. There is the right time to move on and playing games is the most important thing at his age.”
