New twist on Grealish future as ‘ridiculous’ Man City offer to turn Villa heads

A report claims Aston Villa do have a breaking point over their refusal to sell Jack Grealish to Manchester City and a massive offer could tip the balance.

The 25-year-old’s future has been the subject of many column inches in recent times. Although sidelined for three months from February onwards, the midfielder enjoyed an outstanding campaign for the Villans. And it was enough for him to earn selection to England’s Euro 2020 squad.

Grealish played only a minor role for Gareth Southgate’s side and made a substitute appearance in the final. But, with the dust now having settled on the tournament attention has turned to domestic matters.

City have long been linked with the Birmingham-born star as Pep Guardiola is said to be a huge fan. And it was thought the Premier League champions were willing to part with £100m to take him to the Etihad.

It remains to be seen if that is the case but Villa do not want to lose their undoubted talisman. Manager Dean Smith has made it clear that he wants the talented schemer on his books next term.

And talks are thought to have taken place to secure his future at Villa Park. But transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed his own take on the situation.

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, he feels that the West Midlanders will continue to put on a united front. That is, until they are made an offer the can’t refuse.

He said: “The interesting thing here is, publicly, you’ll see Aston Villa are very strong – ‘he’s not for sale, we don’t want to lose Jack Grealish.’

“I’m told that’s not completely true. Behind the scenes, there is an open-mindedness [that] if a ridiculous offer comes in for Jack Grealish, if, for example, it is above the fee that Man United paid for [Paul] Pogba when they set the British transfer record fee, then you have to consider that.

“And you have to consider that the player is obviously going to want to go at that point.”

Grealish warned over City switch

While a transfer to the Champions League finalists might look like a dream move, one man sees it another way. Former Liverpool and England forward John Barnes believes it could be counterproductive.

“Is Man City the place for Jack Grealish? You’ve got Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden; you don’t need another number 10,” he told BonusCodeBets (via the Daily Mirror).

“If he goes there, what kind of player is he going to be? He’s not in the England team because you can’t play all number 10s.
