Newcastle marquee deal is on with Juve after Man Utd man or Liverpool target

Newcastle may have had the door to their first marquee signing opened with a report suggesting Juventus are looking to offload one of their targets.

The Magpies’ well-documented Saudi takeover has prompted significant discussion about who they could sign in the upcoming transfer windows. Many of the names that have been thrown about seem somewhat unrealistic. But this player is definitely a possibility.

That’s because his Italian owners are willing to sell him and he would not be a reckless use of the new cash injection.

According to Calciomercarto, midfielder Adrien Rabiot has emerged as a target for the Toon after their new owners successfully took over.

Juve are looking to offload Rabiot as they need to sell before they can buy. And they have their eyes on two targets, as per the report.

They want to bring in either highly-rated Monaco youngster Aurelien Tchouameni or Manchester United man Donny van de Beek.

Tchouameni, 21, has burst onto the radar of a number of top European clubs, including LiverpoolJurgen Klopp is reportedly desperate to sign him.

United have also been mentioned, while Chelsea and Real Madrid are in the discussion too.

Now Juve have entered the fray. Selling Rabiot would help fund their approach. It would also shift €7m of wages a year off their books.

The France international has less than two years left on his contract in Turin. Therefore, a deal would be relatively cheap.

He was signed on a free from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 so any fee would be profit. As far as Juve are concerned, a transfer ‘would be a bargain’ for everyone involved.

Rabiot seems to be a genuine possibility for Newcastle’s first signing of their prosperous new era.

Robinho, Eto’o or Johnson? Which example will Newcastle follow with their newly acquired wealth?

Newcastle’s next boss won’t be Rodgers

Meanwhile, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers will reportedly turn down all offers from Newcastle to take over from Steve Bruce.

Bruce is expected to get the boot on Tyneside imminently. Director Amanda Staveley was at the club’s training base this week and is understood to have spoken to Bruce.

But the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), who are the club’s majority shareholder, have yet to give the green light to axe the 60-year-old.

Rodgers had been tipped as a potential replacement. But he has “no interest” in Newcastle’s project, as per reliable journalist John Percy.
