Newcastle target Dean Henderson has decision made on Man Utd future

Manchester United have decided to pay a large proportion of Dean Henderson’s wages in order to let the goalkeeper leave on loan this summer, according to reports.

Henderson has struggled for game time this campaign, making just three appearances across all competitions. The England international is said to be frustrated by the situation, and is prepared to leave the club in Summer. However, Man Utd have come up with an alternative solution which could suit all parties.

According to The Sun, United are prepared to pay a large chunk of Henderson’s wages in order to allow the ‘keeper to play elswehere next season.

This came after concerns that no club would be willing to pay his £120,000 per week salary. Henderson signed the lucrative deal in Summer 2020, which isn’t set to expire until 2025.

The academy graduate has many admirers already from within the Premier League and beyond.

The likes of West Ham, Championship leaders Fulham and former club Sheffield United have all been linked to Henderson.

Reports also suggest that Newcastle United are extremely keen on landing the 25-year-old.

Eddie Howe had reportedly been told he would need to fork out £40m for the ‘keeper they attempted to sign this winter window.

While the now Saudi-backed club are likely to splash the cash this summer, the recent report may tempt Newcastle even more.

Other admirers include AFC Bournemouth and Middlesbrough. Boro are currently managed by Chris Wilder, who used Dean Henderson for two seasons at Sheffield United.

However, both of these clubs are likely to be dependent on promotion to the Premier League before they make a move.

Dean Henderson replacement already being scouted

The report adds Tony Coton, United’s goalkeeper scout is searching for a new back-up for David De Gea.

Coton has also been instructed to search for a new third-choice goalkeeper. This then brings into question the future of both Tom Heaton and Lee Grant.

A loan deal would suggest Henderson is still part of United’s long-term plans. However, it is unclear what deal they would aim for a newcomer.

For now, it seems clear that the Red Devils hierarchy are planning for life without the shot-stopper.
