Nottingham Forest boss lauds talisman as owner’s son delights in social media post

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has heaped massive praise on talismanic forward Lyle Taylor.

The striker made a huge impact on Tuesday night when his two late goals ensured Forest took all the spoils away from Ashton Gate. Coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute, Taylor’s brace against Bristol City helped end a 13-game goal drought. The impact sub’s goals have propelled Forest to 12th in the table.

Currently unbeaten since he took over, Cooper is delighted with his frontman.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, he said: “I like him. I’ve known him for three or four weeks and have only been impressed with him.”

Before the game against the Robins, Taylor hadn’t found the net since the opening game of the season against Coventry.

Since the new manager’s arrival, the 31-year-old has played only 88 minutes from the last five Championship games.

However, despite the lack of game time, Cooper has stated how Taylor hasn’t been a problem.

“He’s a really interesting guy with some of the things he’s come through,” he added. “He’s been good as gold.”

He’ll be hoping he can recreate the goalscoring form he found at both Charlton and AFC Wimbledon. With both Taylor and Lewis Grabban firing on all cylinders, Forest could mount a serious play-off charge.

Taylor needs just one more goal to equal his tally from last season for Forest. The Monserrat international will be hoping he can add to his brace in the upcoming fixtures and help his side maintain their sensational form.

Owner, Evangelos Marinakis, will no doubt be impressed by his CEO Dane Murphy’s decision to appoint Cooper as the new manager. The new boss is currently on a five-game unbeaten run as they welcome Fulham to the City Ground on Saturday.

Before the Welshman’s arrival, Forest managed only one win in eight league games.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for Forest who now sit just four points off the top six places.
