Nuno Espirito Santo pushing for his prime target, as Fabio Paratici deals stall

Tottenham remain interested Wolves centre-back Conor Coady and have opened “preliminary talks” over signing the England man, claims a report.

Late last month Spurs’ interest in the 28-year-old emerged. New boss Nuno Espirito Santo is believed to be a big admirer of the reliable defender from their time together at Molineux.

Espirito Santo was apparently told to look elsewhere though with Wolves telling their rivals that Coady was not available at any price.

Indeed, the report on 90min stated that Wolves’ hierarchy regard their leader as “untouchable”.

Now Football Insider claim ‘exclusively’ that Spurs have “set their sights on the England international”.

With Toby Alderweireld sold last week, the club are stepping up their efforts to add “at least two senior central defenders” before the end of the August transfer window.

And the outlet report that Espirito Santo is “pushing hard” to sign Coady. That would give Spurs’ rearguard some Premier League knowhow.

Tottenham also have other irons in the fire with Fabio Paratici targeting Atalanta’s Cristian Romero and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Neither have any Premier League experience, something that Espirito Santo is keen on.

Tottenham are believed to have agreed personal terms with Romero, but have yet to agree a transfer fee.

Coady happy

A deal for Tomiyasu is also stalling while he plays for Japan at the Olympics.

As for Coady, only last month he was said to be happy at Molineux and had no intention of leaving this summer.

The former Huddersfield loanee spent the summer at the Euros with England.

Despite playing against Austria in one of the Three Lions’ warm-up matches, he did not feature in any of the seven England games at the finals.

Harry Maguire, John Stones, Tyrone Mings and Kyle Walker took the centre-back spots during England’s run to the final.
