Offer already on the table as Tottenham chase €35m Bundesliga centre-back also wanted by Liverpool

Tottenham have reportedly already made an offer to sign Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter this summer, with Liverpool also in the running to land the player.

The Germany international’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2022, with a decision expected over his future in the coming months. Ginter, however, wants time to consider any potential offers for his services, opening the door for the Premier League duo.

Bild (via Sport Witness) states that there is currently a game of ‘contract poker’ ongoing between the club and the 27-year-old.

The report adds that Monchengladbach will not allow the defender to enter next season without a new deal in place, meaning this summer is pivotal to whether he stays or not.

The Bundesliga outfit expect to fetch around €35m for Ginter, if they do decide to cash in. And interest from Spurs, Liverpool and Inter Milan is said to have piqued his interest.

The report goes on to state that Tottenham have already made an offer for the player. Indeed, they’re expected to be in the market for at least one new centre-back this summer.

Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez have already been tipped to move on this summer. Eric Dier, meanwhile, is expected to be a target for new Roma boss Jose Mourinho.

Key Germany role for Ginter

Ginter is expected to play a major role in Germany’s bid for Euro 2020 glory this summer. The Monchengladbach ace has already got 38 caps to his name.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is described as a composed centre-back with the passing range of a midfielder. In many ways, he’s considered as a younger version of Spurs stalwart Alderweireld.

With no new manager currently in place, it remains to be seen if Tottenham will maintain their interest in Ginter. However, he would be considered an upgrade on what they already have.

As for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is also expected to bring in a new defender after watching the former Premier League champions struggle badly in the absence of injured duo Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez this term.
