Paper Talk: Four Man Utd targets named, plus €70m old fav now available; Liverpool move for free agent
Four “preferred targets” have been named by one paper as Manchester United look to build on their Europa League final defeat, while Liverpool are moving in on a free agent to replace Gini Wijnaldum, all in today’s gossip.
MAN UTD HAVE QUARTET IN MIND
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said earlier this month that his team were already working on transfers ahead of the summer.
“We are looking at the squad, the players who are going to stay, those who might be leaving and I hope that we’re going to strengthen with a few.. two or three players that we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table,” said the Norwegian boss.
And The Guardian know just who Ole wants, apparently. He is looking for a new centre-back, a wide attacker, a midfielder and a new No. 9.
And Pau Torres, Declan Rice, Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane are “among his preferred targets” report the paper.
After United’s Europa League final defeat to Villarreal, transfer talk has ramped up.
Solskjaer may even require a new goalkeeper if David de Gea moves on. Tom Heaton is set to arrive in the summer after agreeing a deal with the club, according to Sky Sports. But United will look for more competition for Dean Henderson.
And The Sun report they will make an ambitious move for Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak.
United officials will attempt to swap Oblak for De Gea. Oblak, 28 is rated at around £70m, but United will try and lower that fee by sending De Gea in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile, United are also in the race to sign long-term target Saul Niguez. The midfielder is said to be determined to leave Atletico Madrid this summer after winning the LaLiga title.
Marca report Juventus lead Manchester United in the race to sign him. Saul wants to take “another direction in his career.”
Atletico wanted €70m for Saul in 2019, but now they’re open to offers that “satisfy all parties”.
LIVERPOOL TARGET CALHANOGLU
