Paper Talk: Levy jumps on stunning twist as Pochettino makes Tottenham return declaration; Lampard makes big call

Mauricio Pochettino could return to Tottenham in a stunning development, while Frank Lampard makes a big managerial call – both in all the latest Paper Talk.

POCHETTINO EYES TOTTENHAM RETURN

Mauricio Pochettino is ‘seriously considering’ a return to the Tottenham dugout, according to a report.

The Argentine got the sack from Spurs in November 2019 after a sour start to the season, moving to Paris Saint-Germain in January this year.

However, after losing in the Champions League semi-finals to Manchester City, PSG also lost out on the Ligue 1 title to Lille on Sunday’s final day.

As a result, The Sun claims that Pochettino has become ‘unhappy’ in Paris and has told friends that he wants to return to north London.

Meanwhile, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has jumped on the development and is considering trying to persuade his former colleague to leave PSG.

Levy reportedly told friends that sacking Pochettino was the ‘worst’ mistake of his career and wants to redress the balance.

The manager took Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2019 and he believes that he has ‘unfinished business’ in north London.

What’s more, he feels that making a return would be ‘incredibly popular’ with the fans.

In fact, Pochettino’s return could be the gateway for Tottenham keeping Harry Kane; the striker has reportedly told the club that he wants to leave and seek another Premier League move.

Tottenham get manager setbacks

Spurs have had several managerial setbacks in their hunt to replace Jose Mourinho, who took control from Pochettino but was himself sacked in April.

Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag has extended his contract, while Julian Nagelsmann is moving to Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig.

The Sun adds that Brighton’s Graham Potter remains a potential candidate, but that Levy feels appointing the Englishman would be a ‘gamble’.

Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo is available after deciding to leave Wolves at the end of the season.
