Patrick Vieira gives green light to exciting Crystal Palace signing after offer

Crystal Palace could have the chance to sign Layvin Kurzawa from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer window shuts, according to reports in France.

It has been a summer of transition at Selhurst Park, where Patrick Vieira replaced Roy Hodgson as manager. Several players have also departed, but the club have strengthened with the additions of Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher, among others.

But they may still have work to do before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Strengthening at left-back could still be on the agenda after the release of Patrick van Aanholt this summer.

To that end, Kurzawa is now emerging as a potential late target. According to Foot Mercato, the PSG full-back has been offered to Palace, whose boss Vieira would approve of the transfer.

A four-time titlist with PSG, Kurzawa was also attracting interest from Galatasaray earlier this summer. However, coincidentally, the Turkish side signed van Aanholt on a free instead.

Therefore, Kurzawa needs to find a different solution and Palace may be able to provide it. Now 28 years old, he would be a high calibre addition to their evolving squad.

It is not yet clear if a formal offer has been made, but there is interest from Vieira’s side. Citing Foot Mercato‘s report, The Sun claim that Kurzawa could cost around £11m.

Despite being under contract until 2024, it is believed that PSG are open to selling Kurzawa this summer. Their focus is turning to player exits after a busy few months bringing in high-profile players.

Kurzawa could be a casualty, with a recent report naming him as one of five players up for sale. At the time – just last week – he was suggested as an ideal fit for Manchester United.

But last season’s Europa League finalists are already well-stocked at left-back, so a move to Palace may make more sense in terms of gametime. He would, though, have to forfeit European football.

Palace’s only other current recognised left-back is promising academy graduate Tyrick Mitchell. He played 20 times last season, but at the age of 21 it would not be fair to expect him to start week in, week out, with no genuine alternative.

Palace set aside funds for striker

While strengthening at left-back is an area of need, perhaps the urgent priority for Palace is to find a goalscorer.

They have failed to find the net in any of Vieira’s three matches in charge so far. Most recently, they lost 1-0 to Watford in the EFL Cup second round.

Although Christian Benteke agreed a new contract recently, another option up top would be helpful.

To that end, they have been looking across London for a promising forward ready to make a breakthrough.

However, they may have to raise the stakes…
