Prem rival thinks Klopp would ‘have a bit of a go’ after a pint

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has picked out Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as the man he would like to go for a pint with.

The Kettering-born boss has worked wonders with Burnley after getting them promoted to the Premier League in 2017. Dyche guided the Clarets to a 16th placed finish in his first season in the top flight before an unforgettable seventh place in 2018. And while things have not got better than that since, he is widely regarded as a manager who is punching above his weight with the Lancashire side.

Another season in the Premier League awaits next season after staving off the threat of relegation with one of the league’s smallest budgets.

Their rivals know a match at Turf Moor is never easy and Leeds are the visitors on Saturday and will have their work cut out.

In fact Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has complimented Dyche for having a very clear way of playing. That is a principle that Bielsa admires and also has, albeit a different one, with Leeds.

Dyche told Sky’s Super 6 Podcast: “I’ll take out the ones I know, because I know some personally. I think Klopp might be quite interesting.

“I don’t know why, I just imagine he looks like he likes a pint or a version of it. I am quite partial to half a lager-shandy myself let’s say, on the right occasion.

“I think a lot of the European managers may just have a couple of glasses of wine and a chat – I think Klopp, we could probably lock horns and have a bit of a go.”

Strongest handshake

The Clarets boss was also probed about which of his Premier League counterparts had the strongest handshake.

The 49-year-old though could not name one and believes his greeting might be up there.

“People comment on mine. My dad always told me when I was a kid, if you are going to shake hands, shake hands properly. Nobody likes a wet fish handshake, but I cannot tell you off the top of my head. There was not one where you properly just went, ‘Wow’,” said Dyche.

Dyche played at centre-back during his career, spanning over 450 matches and, tongue-in-cheek claimed he would have easily fit into Pep Guardiola’s Man City champions.

Dyche added: “I would have just slot in there, me and (Aymeric) Laporte would have had it right off, don’t worry about that. I would have been blending that team for fun. I would have been finding passes everywhere, Pep (Guardiola) would have been waxing lyrical, they don’t know about me!”
