Prem transfer leads Serie A side to target Liverpool, Man Utd misfits

Inter Milan are looking to replace Ashley Young with either a Liverpool or Manchester United man, according to a report in Italy.

Young recently secured his return to the Premier League after a positive 18-month spell at Inter. His time in Italy culminated in becoming a Serie A title winner. But upon the end of his contract, he opted to head back to his home country, re-joining Aston Villa.

Even though Inter are struggling financially, they still need to make a signing to fill the left-back spot that Young has vacated. To replace the former Manchester United captain, they could seek to sign a current Red Devil – or someone from their rivals Liverpool.

According to Calciomercato, Inter are now trying to sign either Alex Telles or Kostas Tsimikas on loan.

Both left-backs joined their respective clubs last summer, but have struggled for gametime. Luke Shaw has kept Telles out of the Man Utd team, while Andy Robertson remains Liverpool’s first-choice ahead of Tsimikas.

Subsequently, they have both been linked with premature exits. However, their chances of leaving are different; United have reportedly told Telles he will have to leave permanently, while Liverpool may keep Tsimikas around a little longer.

That won’t stop Inter trying to sign either of them on loan, though. Telles previously spent time with the club in the 2015-16 season, when he was on loan from Galatasaray.

As previously referenced, United would prefer to sell him on a permanent deal. However, he is still under contract until 2024, so there is no pressure to do so just yet.

Tsimikas, meanwhile, has been mentioned as a target for Napoli. But they are also looking at Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri, so the Greek international may go down another avenue in Serie A.

It seems Inter have some work to do to convince either Liverpool or Man Utd to let their players go on such terms, even though they are featuring little.

Alonso another option for Inter

Alternatively, a third Premier League backup player who could make the move is Marcos Alonso.

Ben Chilwell has pushed him down the Chelsea hierarchy and now both he and Emerson are being linked with exits.

However, Calciomercato admit that a move for Inter to sign Alonso is looking difficult, despite him being a long-term target.

Chelsea are asking for too much, which is why Inter are considering a loan deal for either Telles or Tsimikas – if possible.
