Pundit destroys Anthony Martial in scathing blast as player makes feelings clear on Man Utd future

Anthony Martial will not be missed by Manchester United and the forward has ‘failed to apply himself properly’ during his six-and-a-half-year stint at Old Trafford.

Martial’s loan switch from Man Utd to Sevilla was confirmed on Tuesday night. It will be the first time he has played for a club other than United since joining them from Monaco in 2015.

Getting his first taste of La Liga, Martial will spend the rest of the season in Spain. Sevilla will be covering his wages for the duration of the spell. But they will not have the option to buy.

The loan exit to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium brings an end, for now at least, to a turbulent spell at United. Indeed, he was recently locked into a war-of-words with Ralf Rangnick over his availability to the side.

However, now his exit has been confirmed, pundit Simon Jordan insists he will not be missed and has questioned the player’s application.

“If you look at young players. Wayne Rooney went into Man United as a teenager, [Cristiano Ronaldo] went there, Jude Bellingham’s gone to Dortmund as a teenager,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“It depends on the player and how they adapt.

“The ownership of the outcome is determined by the player and is created by him.

“If you’ve been there a couple years, or eighteen months like Wilfried Zaha went there, clearly it wasn’t right for him to go Man United at the time.

“You can contribute that to the player and the step up, he [Martial] has been given six-and-half-years!

“Six-and-half-years to get his act together. Ultimately he’s not really made his mark.”

Jordan questions player’s character

Former Palace chairman Jordan feels it’s a question of the player’s attitude over his failure.

“It’s all been about what he can do rather than what he has done. You have to lay the blame the player – the same way with Memphis Depay when he came.

“There are also many examples of younger players who go to clubs and are successful.

“To build something of substance and to overcome adversity, if it’s always a one-way transaction then when a moment of adversity comes your way, you will fail.”

Martial’s loan is only until the end of the season, with Sevilla having no option to buy.

As such, Jordan feels United have made a ‘big mistake’.

“Huge mistake for Man United, they should have got an option to purchase as back he’ll come once Seville know what they’ve got,” he added.

“He could [come good] and find himself in a situation where he bothers to apply himself and convince people to give him a long-term contract and then rewards them once he’s got his long-term contract.”

Anthony Martial admits future is up in the air

Martial himself admits he is unsure what the future will bring having only left on a short-term deal.

“I have joined for five months but you never know what the future holds,” Martial said after joining Julen Lopetegui’s team.

“It’s not just about money. It’s to play and to enjoy it. That’s it. That’s why I chose to come here, to play and to enjoy football again.

“I want to play more and show what I can do. And I believe Sevilla is the perfect place to do that.

“I want to score goals, provide assists and be crucial for this team in the next five months. There are many good players at Sevilla and I want to bring my experience to the side.”

Anthony Martial has made 269 appearances for United, scoring 79 times.

And the Frenchman could make his Sevilla debut in LaLiga clash at Osasuna on Saturday February 5.
