Pundit hints West Ham fear has led to Moyes transfer plan being blocked

West Ham’s owners may have stepped into block a move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham after raising concerns, one pundit claims.

The Hammers face an interesting summer transfer window on a number of fronts. Boss David Moyes has outlined his desire to sign Jesse Lingard permanently after the Manchester United loanee’s stunning impact. However, a new striker could also be on the agenda after selling Sebastian Haller in January.

Indeed, several names have emerged as reported targets on West Ham’s transfer radar.

Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri was a leading candidate in January, but Blues marksman Abraham has been touted in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Moyes ruled out the prospect of signing the England international, citing that his club would be unable to afford him if a purported fee of £40million is true.

According to former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, though, West Ham‘s ownership could also have concerns over the player’s goalscoring record.

“Who knows with the West Ham owners, they might be pricing him out of these players,” the pundit told Football Insider.

“They might not have that money available at the moment. That’s a possibility.

“They are doing unbelievable this season, but it’s a tough one. It depends on whether the money is there anyway.

“They might be thinking £40m is too much for Abraham. Do you want to spend that money on a player who might only get you nine or 10 goals in a season?”

Abraham has mixed Chelsea journey

Abraham made his name on loan at Aston Villa two seasons ago, scoring 25 goals in 37 Championship games.

Amid Chelsea‘s transfer ban, he found himself in the perfect storm and followed Frank Lampard back to Stamford Bridge. As such, he had a strong campaign last term, but has struggled for action since Thomas Tuchel arrived.

Indeed, since returning from an ankle injury, he has featured on the bench for both legs of the Champions League quarter-final and semi-final ties with Porto and Real Madrid, respectively.

What’s more, he has only played 17 minutes in Chelsea’s past two Premier League matches.

Consequently, links with a move away have emerged and Leicester also reportedly hold an interest.
