Pundit says ‘Conte’s hand was forced’ with Tottenham man walking fine line
One former Tottenham star says the future of Ryan Sessegnon at Spurs is under the microscope after another underwhelming display against Chelsea.
Sessegnon has simply failed to make the most of his chances under Antonio Conte, according to Paul Robinson. The former Spurs keeper says Sessegnon has been dealt with very fairly by Conte after getting little game time under his predecessors. But the former Fulham man has failed to deliver.
“Sessegnon was given an opportunity because Lucas wasn’t 100 per cent,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“Speaking to the manager afterwards, Lucas would have played if he was fully fit. Conte’s hand was forced against Chelsea.
“It was another chance for Sessegnon to impress. He’s had a few chances under Conte, who has been fair to every player.
“But Sessegnon has not put his hand up with his performances. He’s not done enough. He’s not taken his chance.
“It should be noted that he is still young and he still has time to grow.
“But he has to prove himself soon if he wants to stay at Spurs because he has not done it so far.”

Sessegnon had struggled with injury earlier in the season, which forced him to miss eight games. He failed to make it on to the pitch under Nuno Espirito Santo.
But the arrival of Conte saw the left-sided player given a clean slate and he has made four Premier League appearances. He also plated wide left in the FA Cup win over Morecambe, but has failed to repay Conte’s faith.
While his performance at Stamford Bridge in the 2-0 defeat was far from impressive.
The Evening Standard awarded him a 5/10 rating and said “he was guilty of allowing Ziyech to come inside on his left foot for the goal”.
His stats were poor with just a 50 per cent pass completion rate, with just four accurate passes. He also won just one of his five duels and was hooked on 56 minutes.
Sessegnon, 21, is under contract until 2025, but the Londoner’s future looks far from assured at Spurs.
