Pundit shocked at Liverpool first seen at Man Utd; star told he is ‘out of order’

Jamie Redknapp noted that Sadio Mane’s frosty reaction to Jurgen Klopp’s embrace is the first time that a Liverpool player has shunned the manager at full time.

Klopp, who was rightfully buzzing with his first win at Manchester United as Reds boss on Thursday, went to conduct his post-match pleasantries with both sets of players. However, Mane – who started the game on the bench – shrugged his manager off. The winger refused to accept his manager’s fist pump, instead walking away.

As a result, Klopp stopped in his tracks for a moment before walking in the opposite direction.

After the match, the manager insisted that it was “all fine” and that Mane felt aggrieved because he had not received an explanation over the “late” decision to pick Diogo Jota up front.

Nevertheless, Klopp’s excusing of Mane did not wash with former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness, who slammed the Senegal winger.

He told Sky Sports: “Disrespectful. If I was the manager I wouldn’t be happy.

“He should show a bit of respect. It’s disrespectful to the manager and the club.

“How can he argue? He’s not had a great season and Liverpool have won here 4-2.”

Mane has proved one of Jurgen Klopp’s best signings, but he has not had one of his standout seasons. In fact, he has only scored nine Premier League goals, his lowest tally in a campaign since moving to Anfield.

Jota, meanwhile, has added a significant boost to Liverpool’s front three and his fine goal got Liverpool level at Old Trafford after an early setback.

It will never be known how Mane would have performed had he got the nod, but Roy Keane added that the winger was “out of order”.

Mane out of order for Liverpool

“The player is out of order,” Keane said. “But when I was a player I didn’t want the manager coming on giving me high fives.

“If he sees the player upset then back away.”

Redknapp added: “We haven’t seen a player do that to Klopp before. It happens, he wants to play and he showed emotion.”

Personal grievances aside, Liverpool’s win has blown the race for the top four wide open and Mane could still have a telling contribution in his side qualifying for the Champions League before the season ends.
