Raheem Sterling stance revealed after intriguing link emerges with Italian giant

Raheem Sterling could get an opportunity to join AC Milan if his contract stalemate with Manchester City does not show signs of changing, reports have claimed.

Sterling has been an influential player for Manchester City since joining them from Liverpool in 2015. He has scored more than 100 goals in the time since, getting his hands on nine trophies.

But he could be approaching the end of his time at the Etihad Stadium. His contract there expires in 2023 and TEAMtalk understands there has been little progress in terms of a renewal.

The winger has been of interest to Barcelona, who could fancy their chances of taking him if Manchester City do not want to lose him for free next year.

But they are not his only suitors, with Gazzetta Dello Sport now revealing that the England international could become a target for AC Milan.

The Serie A side are hoping to sign a new winger in the summer. They have a few options to consider, such as Real Madrid duo Isco and Marco Asensio.

But Milan may be offered the chance to sign Sterling by his representatives. If he was to make such a move, he would join up with fellow Englishman, Fikayo Tomori.

Tomori has thrived since leaving Chelsea for Milan, so there is a precedent for Sterling to follow. Milan’s need for a player of his style may make it a worthwhile switch.

However, they may still have to spend big to sign the 27-year-old, who cost City more than £50m when they signed him. Milan’s move would depend on whether a Bahrain-backed takeover of the club can go through.

Besides, the Daily Mirror have since provided clarity on the situation. They claim Raheem Sterling remains happy at Man City and there has been no contact yet between his representatives and Milan.

However, the Jamaican-born ace is waiting until the end of the season to decide his future. By then, he could have added another Premier League medal to his collection, but City remain in a battle with Liverpool for the title.

Both sides will need to fully focus on their on-pitch matters, requiring total commitment from their players. It seems Sterling is on board with such an idea, with City in contention for the Champions League too.

In the summer, he will listen to what City have to say about his future. There could be other offers for him to take into consideration too, but all that will have to wait.
