Reguilon has a shocker as Tottenham crumble to Aston Villa defeat
Sergio Reguilon had a night to forget in front of a select number of Tottenham fans as Spurs were beaten 2-1 at by Aston Villa to dent their Europa League hopes.
Reguilon scored a spectacular own goal and then gave away a second goal as Villa fought back from a goal down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Steven Bergwijn had put Spurs ahead before Reguilon’s gaffe and Ollie Watkins then made it 2-1 before half-time.
Harry Kane was named in Tottenham’s team against Aston Villa despite reportedly telling the club he wants to leave.
The England striker is keen to move on and win trophies but started the club’s final home game of the season.
There were two changes in the Spurs XI, with Steven Bergwijn and Harry Winks coming in for Gareth Bale and Giovani Lo Celso.
Jack Grealish started for Aston Villa for the first time since February.
Spurs went ahead in just the eighth minute as Bergwijn scored his first goal of the season.
The Dutchman won the ball back off Marvelous Nakamba and then rocketed a finish into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
Villa were level in the 20th minute thanks to a horror own goal by Reguilon.
The Spaniard completely miscued a clearance with his wrong foot and it skewed past Hugo Lloris, who could not keep it out despite getting a hand to the ball.
Villa were the better team and went ahead in the 39th minute.
Reguilon was having a game to forget and twice saw attempted clearances blocked, the second falling perfectly to Ollie Watkins, who fired home at the near post for his 17th goal of the season.

Tottenham again gave the ball away trying to run the ball out of defence, but Lloris came to the rescue, blocking Watkins’s near-post effort.
Spurs left the field at half-time 2-1 down and to a chorus of boos from their returning fans.
They started the second period much better and created their best chance since the goal soon after the restart. Villa could not clear and Kane worked the ball to Bergwijn, whose first-time shot is parried away by Emiliano Martinez.
Bergwijn then saw another shot repelled by Martinez as Spurs stepped on the gas.
At the other end Watkins could have made it three, but saw the ball smothered by Lloris before the offside flag was raised. And moments later Dele Alli went down in the box, but he was also adjudged to be offside.
Kane then saw a shot well saved by Martinez as Spurs tried to push for the leveller.
On 83 minutes Watkins shoudl have made it 3-1 but saw Eric Dier block his close-range shot while he was on the floor.
Sub Carney Chukwuemeka, 17, came on for a debut and almost wrapped up the game with a shot which cannoned back off the post in stoppage time.
