Report names four threats to West Ham in pursuit of £25m striker target

West Ham lead the race to sign Adam Armstrong from Blackburn Rovers, but interest in the striker is growing, according to a report.

Armstrong has enjoyed a prolific season in the Championship, with only Brentford’s Ivan Toney outscoring his 28 goals. Blackburn are expecting offers for their frontman as a result, especially with there only being one year left on his contract. A move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

West Ham have been linked with Armstrong fairly frequently in recent months. They have needed a new striker ever since selling Sebastien Haller in January, but decided to wait until the summer.

Now, the time is approaching when they will consider their options again. Armstrong remains on their radar, according to The Sun, and they seem well placed to sign him.

The newspaper lists the Hammers and London rivals Fulham as the main contenders for Armstrong’s signature. But they are not alone.

It is added that Everton and Brighton have also joined the pursuit of the 24-year-old. Blackburn could command a fee of £25m to sanction his sale.

There is also a chance that Newcastle, who sold Armstrong to Blackburn in 2018, could try to re-sign their academy graduate. Wherever he ends up, they will be owed some money as part of a sell-on clause.

It looks like West Ham might be the most likely destination, though, as they prepare for an important summer.

After avoiding relegation last season, this has been a much better year for the Hammers. They are in contention to finish in the European places going into the final weekend of the season.

To maintain that success, they will need to find the right reinforcements in the transfer market. It seems Armstrong is someone they think can add value to their squad.

West Ham in talks for Slavia striker

Meanwhile, Slavia Prague have confirmed West Ham have opened talks to sign in-demand forward Abdallah Sima but his price tag could be a major issue.

Sima, 19, is currently in his first season with the Czech side and has been turning heads with his displays.

In addition to the Hammers, Leeds United and Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the Senegal international. But it appears as though he will not come cheap.

Dubbed the ‘new Thierry Henry’, Sima is said to be valued at around £50m, according to The Evening Standard. The Red and Whites have reportedly already rejected an offer of £25m from an unnamed club.

It remains to be seen if they do get the asking price but that would appear out of the Hammers’ price range. That is maybe the reason why they have entered negotiations at an early stage.

And Prague manager Jindrich Trpisovsky revealed to the club’s official Twitter account about West Ham’s inquiry.

“There is interest in Abdallah Sima,” he said. “There’s a set price at which he could leave. We’re currently focusing on him playing the rest of the season with us.

“We talked about it with the boys from West Ham, where they have him very high on the list of possible reinforcements.”
