Rivals emerge for West Ham target but new price gives fresh hope of deal

West Ham’s chances of signing out-of-favour Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham have taken a hit with the news that Borussia Dortmund are now in the picture.

The Hammers have been strongly linked with a summer swoop for the England forward. David Moyes is in the market for a new striker having yet to replace Sebastien Haller, who left for Ajax in January. Jesse Lingard came in on loan and was nothing short of sensational, with goals and assists.

But he is not an out-and-out front man and that position needs addressing before the start of 2021-2022. West Ham have been linked for some time but Chelsea’s asking price of £40m may be an obstacle.

Moyes is said to be prepared to take the 23-year-old on loan as a compromise. But it is not known if the Blues would accept that.

Aston Villa’s name has also been mentioned in connection with the Londoner but Dortmund have now been linked, according to 90 Min. A move to the Bundesliga outfit might appeal to the youngster given how other English starlets have thrived at Westfalenstadion.

Jadon Sancho has been there for four years and seen his status grown while Jude Bellingham is also on the books. The midfielder enjoyed 19 starts among 29 Germany top-flight appearances and has been capped twice by England.

Abraham could only look on in envy as he had been marginalised at Stamford Bridge since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival. He has lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad and will not feature in Euro 2020.

An exit from west London seems on the cards and the London Stadium was a viable option. But BVB’s interest may turn his head with the opportunities it presents.

Revised Abraham value gives West Ham hope

Abraham still has years ahead of him and the second half of 2020-2021 will be seen as just a setback. His next move will be key and the former Villa loan man will want to get it right.

Much will depend on whether he wants to remain in the Premier League and prove Tuchel wrong. And it seems as though he may now be more affordable.

Claret and Hugh claim he could be available for just £30m, a price that will doubtless see other clubs show their hand.

The same website states that his preference is to remain in the capital. But that was before a club with the standing of Dortmund entered the fray.
