Ryan Mason comments on chances of landing permanent Tottenham job
Interim Tottenham boss Ryan Mason has spoken about the prospects of him landing the job on a permanent basis this summer.
The former Spurs midfielder was handed the reins after Jose Mourinho was sacked last month and has overseen two wins and two defeats in his four games in charge. The decision to turn to the 29-year-old was met with considerable surprise, although he never thought of as a long-term solution.
Lazio boss Simeone Inzaghi is the current bookies’ favourite for the role, with Fulham’s Scott Parker and Brighton chief Graham Potter also firmly in the running.
But Mason insists he will not get the job full-time. Speaking at his press conference for Sunday’s clash with Wolves, he said: “No. At the start of our conversations it was ‘can you help the football club until the end of the season?’ And then after that, the role is there, to return to what I was doing.
“So as far as I understand at the moment, there’s three more games, and I’m incredibly proud to be in this position, helping this football club. And then after that, my hope is to remain here of course.
“I love this club, I want to help this football club. That was the conversations before, we’ve had no conversations since, because the priority and the aim has been on the games in the Premier League, and obviously we had a League Cup final as well, and to try and win the games in hand.”

European football a must for Tottenham
As for Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying for Europe again, Mason added: “Of course, since I’ve been here as a player, over the past 10 to 15 years, the chairman has done an incredible job in taking the football club to the next level.
“The fact that we’re sitting here now saying we expect Champions League, that’s what we want and expect, I think that goes to say that the expectations within the club and outside it…of course when you represent this football club you want to be playing in the biggest games. Unfortunately this season hasn’t gone as planned at times.
“I’ve said it all along, we want to focus our attention on winning as many games from now until the end of the season. We had a bit of a dent last weekend and we have to bounce back and win this weekend. It’s a big game.”
Mason also confirmed that Ben Davies remains the only casualty for the game against Wolves.
