Jadon Sancho has cast doubt on his chances of a Premier League move by admitting he is “very happy” at Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho left his homeland to begin his professional career with Dortmund in 2017. The move has worked out, as he has cemented his reputation as one of England’s biggest prospects in the years since. Hence, rumours of a return to the Premier League have never been far away.
Last summer, Sancho was a top target for Manchester United. However, Dortmund held firm with their demands for a €120m transfer fee, which United could not reach.
The winger’s form suffered a dip in the first few months of the season. But he has got back to his best since the turn of the calendar year. For example, he scored a match-winning brace for Dortmund against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
It came after a week of links with a move to England. One report claimed that Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City all possessed some form of interest. However, even though his asking price has reduced, all still seem to have doubts.
Hence, Sancho staying in Germany cannot be ruled out, and he indicated he would be happy to do so after his impactful performance against Leipzig.
He told ESPN: “Will I leave the club? I don’t know about my future…
“I am very happy here in Dortmund at the moment. I love the club, the fans and the team. They gave me my first professional start.
“The fans motivate and push me to the limit.”
The 21-year-old remains under contract with Dortmund until 2023. ESPN have estimated his price tag to be £87m but other outlets have claimed it is even lower.
Sancho suggested as part of Man Utd plan
While Man Utd may still be weighing up the pros and cons of bidding again for Sancho, one pundit has advised them to include him on their shopping list.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes a centre-back, striker and winger could be the club’s biggest priorities.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane is one player whose uncertain future will dominate the transfer window. Agbonlahor wants United to go for both him and Sancho, as well as a new defender.
Asked about Kane, the pundit told talkSPORT recently: “I think he’s worth more [than £90m].
“I think with what he can bring to that Manchester United team, you’re not going to get Harry Kane for £90m from [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy.
“It’s going to be over £100m, £110m. Just because of how good a player he is. He’s a natural finisher at the peak of his career. I just can’t see it happening for £90m.
“I think he could win everything [at United]. Manchester United probably need another right winger, a striker and a centre-half.
“If they could get Harry Kane, maybe Sancho and a world-class centre-half, there is no reason why they can’t win the Premier League, win the Champions League.”
