Schick scores again but Czech Republic and Croatia play out Group D draw
Croatia and Czech Republic had to settle for a point each after drawing 1-1 in a result that leaves Group D in the balance.
Before the big match between British rivals England and Scotland in the late kick-off, the other two sides in Group D faced off. Czech Republic were looking to build on their opening win against Scotland, while Croatia needed to bounce back from their loss to England.
It was the Czechs who took the lead – although the circumstances were somewhat controversial. They were awarded a penalty after a VAR check for Dejan Lovren making contact with Patrik Schick’s nose.
It appeared to be a natural movement as the former Liverpool defender was jumping. However, Schick was hurt in the challenge and the referee gave a penalty upon second viewing.
Schick took it himself and tucked it into the bottom corner to move on to three goals for the tournament so far.
But Croatia hit back in the second half, in quite spectacular fashion. Ivan Perisic cut in from the left wing and fired across Tomas Vaclik’s goal to equalise.
However, neither side could find an equaliser. It means Czech Republic are on four points and Croatia on one ahead of England v Scotland.
