Serie A goal-getter’s camp tempt Liverpool with talks for bargain transfer

The representatives of AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu have contacted Liverpool to assess their interest in a transfer, according to a report.

Midfield has proved the busiest part of Jurgen Klopp‘s team since he arrived. While he has regular starters such as Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, the manager likes to have a host of options. Indeed, Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are in the fight for game time among others.

Georginio Wijnaldum has also enjoyed a regular role at Anfield, but he is leaving this summer when his contract expires.

As a result, the hunt is reportedly on to source Klopp a replacement, with several names in the running.

Brighton’s Yves Bissouma is on their radar, while Udinese’s Rodrigo de Paul has also been mentioned.

According to Calciomercato reporter Daniele Longo (via Twitter), though, Calhanoglu’s entourage have opened talks with Liverpool over their client.

However, Liverpool have yet to respond, either by progressing their interest or moving onto other targets.

Like Wijnaldum, the Turkey international is to become a lucrative free agent soon, with his contract coming to an end as it stands.

Although, Calhanoglu has insisted that his current focus is on the European Championships.

He told Fotomac: “Milan are special for me, we are back in the Champions League and it is a great result for the team.

“I haven’t decided on my future yet and I don’t want to talk about it now. I just want to focus on the Euros.”

Nevertheless, he would prove a fantastic acquisition for a club in Europe, with Juventus also showing interest.

Calhanoglu finished the season with nine goals and 12 assists in all competitions. Meanwhile, he has contributed 32 goals and 48 assists for Milan since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017.

Liverpool star names plan

Elsewhere, Liverpool defender Ben Davies says that he is looking forward to pre-season after recovering from a calf injury.

The 25-year-old was a surprise signing for the Reds in January, amid their defensive shortage.

He has yet to make his debut unlike fellow winter arrival Ozan Kabak, but injury has hampered his progress.
