Shearer feels Kane decision ‘already made’; makes big summer prediction

Former England striker Alan Shearer feels indecision over Harry Kane’s Tottenham future will not affect him at this summer’s European Championship.

Kane, 27, is set to lead the line for the Three Lions as they begin their assault on Euro 2020 glory. Gareth Southgate’s men face Croatia, Scotland and Czech Republic in the group stage from June 13 onwards. The boss feels anything but a march to the semi-finals will be deemed as a failure.

He needs his big players to step up and Kane is the undoubted talisman of the team. But he will enter the competition with doubts over his future at club level.

He has been linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a recent interview with Gary Neville. Both Manchester clubs have been linked while Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also thought to be keen.

Shearer sees echoes of his experience 25 years ago. He feels Kane’s future is far from certain but has backed the England captain to deliver on the pitch.

“He comes into it after winning the Golden Boot in the World Cup and he’ll also probably come into it on the back of having to sort his future out with Spurs,” he told BBC Sport. “I went into Euro 96 with Blackburn and of course had the tournament and then had a decision to make myself after it.

“It sounds like he’s made that decision already. I don’t think that will affect him at all, even if it’s not sorted out, which we don’t think it will be.”

No Kane news good news for Tottenham

Most things point to Kane leaving the north Londoners this summer. He is clearly ambitious to win trophies and that is not happening with his present employers.

There is the issue of who might replace Jose Mourinho at the help, with ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino among those linked. Football.london are reporting that the striker has yet to make a formal request to leave.

And Shearer sees no reason why the Walthamstow-born ace should not light up the upcoming event.

“With the talent [in the squad], with the added options of our full-backs – whether he plays three or four at the back – then I’m pretty sure that Harry will score goals and will be right up there challenging for that Golden Boot.

“I’ve no doubt about that. I’m fairly confident of that.”
