Sheffield Wednesday boss eager for his side to improve consistency levels

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore is hoping his team can kick on from their victory against Bolton last weekend.

Beating Ian Evatt’s men 1-0 at Hillsborough, Wednesday’s start to life back in League One has been a very inconsistent one.

Currently sitting ninth in the table, the Owls have won just two from their last five league games.

Speaking to The Star, Moore said: “Bolton are an excellent team and it makes it all that more rewarding getting three points from them, but we don’t savour it too much and we’ve another exciting encounter on Saturday.

The Owls travel to AFC Wimbledon at the weekend and a victory in London would mean they’ll pick up back-to-back league wins for the first time since August.

The home side are currently on a four-game winless run but will still be a tough test for Moore’s men.

“We’re playing against opposition that want to stop what we want to do,” said Moore. “Sometimes games are different.

“We saw different games this season, we got the goal and were resolute and we played really well and got three points.”

After a dramatic final day relegation against Derby County, Wednesday had a complete overhaul in the summer.

But bringing in 14 new, fresh faces means Moore is constantly chopping and changing his squad to try and find his best eleven.

Moore said: “We’ve been changing shape and formation and we saw in pockets exceptional performances from individuals.

“An then there are times we’ve had to knuckle down. We’ve seen all these aspects. That’s what happens when you formulate a new team.”

A win against The Dons could see the Owls climb back into the play-off places.

Saido Berahino seals move to Sheffield Wednesday

Saido Berahino has joined Sheffield Wednesday to make his return to English football following a spell in Belgium.

The 28-year-old forward began his career at West Brom before joining Stoke in 2017 and scored 23 goals in the Premier League. They all came across 105 appearances for the Baggies.

He failed to score in two seasons in the Premier League with Stoke, but got three goals from 23 appearances in the Championship.

After joining Zulte Waregem, he made 34 appearances in all competitions and scored 10 goals. His spell with Charleroi brought two goals from 20 games.
