Solskjaer ready to show door to four big Man Utd stars, says report

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to allow four big-name stars to depart this summer as he looks to free up more transfer funds for Manchester United.

The Red Devils have won through to the Europa League final and will battle Villarreal in Gdansk on May 26. Victory will deliver the first piece of silverware of Solskjaer’s Old Trafford reign. However, United want to challenge Manchester City for title glory and go deep into the Champions League.

As such, plans are starting to take shape for the summer transfer window and new additions. Top of Solskjaer’s agenda is a right-winger and a central defender. United could also be in the market for a new big-name centre forward. Much though will depend on Edinson Cavani’s plans. To that end, Solskjaer claims he is hopeful El Matador could stay.

However, the club continues to be linked with Erling Haaland, though Andre Silva looks a more likely option.

Jadon Sancho continues to be mentioned as a right-wing target amid claims his price has been reduced a second time.

And Villarreal’s Pau Torres – who they face in the Europa League final – has caught their eye in defence.

United will likely having a sizeable transfer warchest at their disposal this summer. However, a number of unwanted fringe stars could be moved on. Andrea Perreira, Phil Jones and Juan Mata all look likely to leave.

It’s also likely United will collect a sizeable fee from West Ham for Jesse Lingard after his impressive loan stint.

However, the Daily Express claims Solskjaer could also offload four other big-name stars to generate additional funds.

As per the report, they state David De Gea, Axel Tuanzebe, Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles could all be offloaded.

De Gea’s exit would not come as a huge surprise. While he performed really well against Roma on Thursday, he has lost his place as undisputed No 1. Indeed, Dean Henderson now looks to have that honour, having started the last seven Premier League games.

De Gea is United’s top earner on an estimated £350,000 a week. He’s been linked with a move to PSG, while a swap deal with Atletico Madrid has also been mooted.

Tuanzebe, meanwhile, is a trusted member of Solskjaer’s squad. He’s a regular in their matchday squad, but has made just six starts this season. The wish to sign a new centre-half, together with Eric Bailly’s new deal, means he will likely be forced out.

Van de Beek, Telles may be sold

Van de Beek, meanwhile, has struggled badly since his move to Old Trafford. Signed initially to cover Paul Pogba’s possible departure, the Dutchman has found himself with limited game-time.

There was a lot of competition for Van de Beek’s signature before he joined Man Utd last summer. Some may think he made the wrong choice given the lack of action that has followed. This season, he has only managed to start two Premier League matches.

His struggles for gametime have led to rumours that he could seek a new club just one year after his arrival in Manchester. At 24 years old and with the ability he has, he needs to be playing more regularly.

Were United to cash in, there would be no shortage of suitors. However, they could expect to make a loss on their initial £35m investment.

Telles, meanwhile, was signed to provide cover and competition for Luke Shaw at left-back. However, his arrival has induced new levels to Shaw’s game, meaning Telles could be sacrificed.

The Brazilian has made 18 starts, but has not been a regular. United could comfortably get back their £13.6m investment were they to sell.

Speaking of his situation recently, he said: “Since I’ve arrived here, I’ve worked as hard as I can. I’ve done everything I can to show that I deserve to be here. I think I’ve done that.

“At the same time, I’m really happy for Luke Shaw, who has made great progress and has been playing really well. He trains really well and he’s done excellently in the matches as well.

“When you’ve got a situation like that, then the team can only benefit from it. It’s Man United that wins from that [situation].”
