Southampton boss Hasenhuttl ramps up Tuchel pressure after citing remarkable Chelsea statistic

Ralph Hasenhuttl gave his take on Chelsea’s recent run of form, as his Southampton side prepare to do battle at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Chelsea have lost successive games, albeit against two of Europe’s top sides, Manchester City and Juventus. Though Southampton boss Hasenhuttl is still wary of the threat the current European champions pose, ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash.

“I think for them it is a very important game because they lost twice and I think it is unusual to have this situation,” he said via The PA.

“For us it is again a game against one of the top-six top teams in the league, the Champions League winners, who are a little bit under pressure after two times not winning. They will do everything to win this game because they have to.”

The Southampton boss is respectful of Chelsea, and is well aware of the threat they present.

“We go there like every year with a lot of respect, but also believing in what we are doing and this is how we want to create another positive result at this ground,” he said.

Hasenhuttl has never lost at Stamford Bridge during his tenure at Southampton, and is hoping for another positive result.

“There are not many grounds out there where we have never lost a game, but this is one of them. We have always felt good there and had very good games most of the time, to be honest,” he said.

Southampton are looking for their first win of the season. The side currently sit 16th, and a win would be crucial to climb the table. Although, Hasenhuttl is aware that will be tough against one of the league’s top sides.

“We know we need to take the first win; there’s always a chance to do it. If you want to be successful [at Chelsea], you need everything to go right,” he said.

Chelsea make impressive start

Despite faltering of late, Chelsea have made an imposing start to the season, especially in the Premier League.

They beat Arsenal 2-0 in August, and gave 3-0 thumpings to Aston Villa and Tottenham in September.

Record signing Romelu Lukaku has gotten right back into the swing of Premier League action, bagging three goals in five appearances so far.

The Belgian certainly enjoys playing against Saturday’s opponents Southampton. He has scored 10 times and provided three assists in 12 games against the Saints. Only against West Ham does he have a better goalscoring record.
